Commenting on the news that Dundee's new Regional Performance Centre for Sport will not incur a £800,000 tax bill, Jenny Marra said:
"I am glad that both Derek Mackay and Shona Robison have listened to our campaign and will not impose rates of £800,000 per year on the new Regional Performance Centre for Sport.
"This announcement however falls very short on addressing the proposed tax on sport.
"Whilst the Regional Performance Centre is getting a reprieve, the new Menzieshill Community and Sport Centre will not.
"The fact remains that after the budget next week, any new sports or cultural project put forward by Leisure and Culture Dundee or any other council arms length organisation will be subject to new taxes and that is unacceptable.
"It is still unbelievable that the Health and Sport Minister and her colleagues will vote for a budget on Wednesday that will land new facilities in Dundee and across Scotland with a hefty tax bill.
"Taxing physical activity and sport is the latest example of a government that doesn't have a clue on how to deal with the problems of our nation's health.”
